Digitalk Service Migration for MVNOs

Migrating an existing MVNO customer base and service portfolio to a new platform can be daunting. But inertia due to perceived risk can also be disastrous. Find out how Digitalk can take away the pain of migrating to the Digitalk Mobile Cloud, enabling agility, flexibility and scalability, while reinvigorating your business.
The MVNO model has been buoyant in recent years. So much so that new entrants from outside the traditional telco ecosystem, from supermarkets to broadcasters, have taken advantage of the MVNO mode of operation with considerable success. Going mobile continues to be an attractive proposition for many brands, from a wide range of sectors.
According to Mordor Intelligence, for example, the MVNO market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.75% from $62 billion in 2020 to over $91 billion by 2026. It cites new technology enablers, such as e-Sim, AI, ML, and edge computing as creating further opportunities for MVNOs and their MNO partners.[1]
MVNOs need a strong value and service proposition; price is no longer enough
However, this success comes at a price: a highly competitive, fragmented marketplace that requires absolute agility, flexibility, scalability and competitive differentiation in order to thrive. Competing on price is no longer enough. Instead, customers are looking for a strong value and service proposition in order to entice them.
MVNOs also need to be lean and efficient in order to keep operational costs to a bare minimum in order to remain competitive in such a price-sensitive market. They must be agile, with the ability to change direction at speed when changing market conditions demand it – including adjusting rates and tariffs, or adding new functionality as required.
One of the biggest challenges for MVNOs and their MNO partners, however, is that many legacy platforms and systems are not ‘fit for purpose’. For example, in a recent survey of over 100 operators by Telecoms.com Intelligence, the overwhelming sentiment was that the agility of an operator is largely tied to the agility of the BSS it relies on.
The burden of legacy platforms
Conversely, most respondents felt that the burden of legacy systems in their BSS environments is limiting their agility. All too often MVNOs are being held back by outdated platforms, or unsuitable solutions, which mean that a business cannot scale effectively and efficiently, which in turn hinders growth.
A legacy platform can also make it difficult to manage, control and reduce operations costs. On top of all of that, legacy platforms may not be able to meet the requirements of constantly changing external factors, such as regulatory changes, competition laws, mergers and acquisitions, and so on.
Today’s competitive MVNO or MNO needs to be able to change offers and bundles at the flick of a switch. In short, they need to become more agile. The only option for many is migration to a new platform. So, what’s holding them back?
Put simply, inaction. The scale and complexity of the task is daunting, with the perceived risk outweighing the potential rewards. But, ultimately, doing nothing can lead to business failure.
