Digitalk Responds to Changes within the European Wholesale Market

The introduction of legislation by the European Parliament restricting the amount Mobile operators can charge for roaming between EU member countries has had a profound impact on the wholesale voice market. Many of the large EU mobile operators have jointly agreed to apply surcharges to mobile calls originating from outside of the EU to offset the loss of revenue caused by the restriction to roaming charges.

In the last few months the issue of origination based surcharging for mobile calls has become one of the key challenges faced by operators within the wholesale voice market. Many operators have been unable to react to the new market conditions and as a result have been losing revenue and commercial opportunities due to technical limitations of their routing and billing solutions.

The latest release of Digitalk Carrier Cloud (5.0) made available to all Carrier Cloud customers in January as a routine upgrade, provides a number of significant enhancements enabling call charges to be applied based on their origination as well as destination address. The extended functionality has enabled Carrier Cloud customers to accommodate the changes within the EU wholesale market.

Digitalk Product Manager Oliver Roberts said “Responding quickly to changes within the wholesale market has been key to the success of Carrier Cloud. We endeavour to support our Carrier Cloud customers by providing the class leading infrastructure and service management required to maximise operational efficiency, essential in a highly competitive market”.
