Cable markets have evolved differently from region to region and country to country. In some locations, early cable services
offered purely commercially or with government backing – stimulated the widespread rollout of systems dedicated to unidirectional
TV transmission. Elsewhere, cable networks emerged alongside telecoms market liberalisation and so were accompanied by switched
network telephony rollout followed by the addition of dial-up and then broadband internet services. In some areas, the cable
market has consolidated as operators strive to compete both with the terrestrial and satellite broadcast providers and with
incumbent telephony network operators. As a result, many cable network operators have now built up substantial core network
infrastructure that enables them to offer a range of residential and business networking and communications services.
With significant investments in cable access and core networks, as well as acquisition of broadcast and on-demand content,
cable network operators need to maximise returns by increasing revenue per user, minimising customer churn and exploiting
network assets. With cable TV, broadband internet access and core network infrastructure available, cable network operators
have a strong platform for a powerful set of residential and business telephony services.
APPLICATIONS
DIGITALK offers a number of applications all available on the Multiservice Platform that enable cable network operators to exploit their existing assets to gain new revenues, including the following:
|
|
Broadband Telephony
|
Residential IP telephony can be offered to cable broadband subscribers and as a pure IP telephony service to users of
other broadband internet services. A complete service can be enabled with individual user calling features and voicemail.
|
IP Virtual Office
|
Where the cable operator supports business networking services, IP Virtual Office can be added to provide enterprises
with a complete telephony service without requiring the installation of network infrastructure.
|
Service Numbers
|
To further expand the range of telephony services available, the cable operator can also offer number translation
and inbound call distribution services with full customer self-configuration.
|
PLATFORM
The DIGITALK Multiservice Platform supports application delivery in both TDM and IP network environments, enabling operators to deploy and, as necessary, migrate services. With its complete provisioning, service management and customer self-care facilities, the platform enables the cable network operator to rapidly roll out services while keeping integration and operations overheads to a minimum.
CUSTOMERS
The DIGITALK Multiservice Platform is deployed at the following cable network operators:
