DIGITALK enhances VoIP platform to reduce user call costs

DIGITALK, an independent developer of service delivery platforms, today announces it has enhanced its platform to offer a Web Calling Card service that frees subscribers from any single VoIP provider, and will subsequently reduce the cost of calls. The new feature enables service providers to offer customers the ability to make prepaid calls over the Internet, without the need to subscribe to a VoIP or Call-Back service, and offers an opportunity to deliver a range of additional features which improve customer loyalty and increase revenues.

As with a traditional Calling Card service, a consumer purchases a Calling Card from a retail outlet, but rather than using traditional telephony to make calls, they are free to use any PC that has a broadband connection, suc h as an Internet Caf?r WiFi Hotspot. The advantage of this approach is that call charges can be reduced, as the initial leg of the call is bypassed.

"The Web Calling Card feature is an important development for users of VoIP services, because it offers them a greater choice of service provider, lower prices and a larger number of new service functions." said Mark Ashdown, Sales and Marketing Director, DIGITALK. "DIGITALK has spent many months listening to our customers, and this new feature has been developed based on their feedback and is already being requested by a number of operators in Europe."

Web Calling Card also offers a number of additional subscriber features to traditional Calling Cards including the ability to view remaining balance online, view recent calls and perform a one-click redial, making VoIP accessible to all.

The DIGITALK Web Calling Card feature is a turnkey and service-ready feature of the DIGITALK Consumer Platform, and is designed to be deployed as either a traditional Calling Card solution, or within a call shop environment. Access to the service is provided by an integrated Web Phone Server and all rating is completed by the DIGITALK platform, using either the DIGITALK Media Application Server or a VoIP-enabled Intelligent Switch.
