DIGITALK, the leading developer of multi-service voice switching platforms, and Citrus Telecom today announce the launch of Citrus Telecom’s new residential VoIP services using the DIGITALK Broadband Telephony platform.
The new service offers Citrus residential subscribers a "virtual VoIP phone" which allows a normal fixed telephone line to be used to call other Broadband Telephony users as a free “on-net” call using a traditional PSTN network.
Calls to other Broadband Telephony subscribers are routed to the Citrus network and passed over a high speed IP network to reach their destination.
Chris Spicer, CTO of Citrus explains, “This new development in VoIP services effectively removes the technical barriers to entry for residential subscribers who want to make use of the call savings that Broadband Telephony offers. We believe that this is a unique way of offering real value to customers who do not wish to use a PC or standard IP telephone to make their calls. “
“Now that we can offer a virtual VoIP service the next step will be to offer peering services to other networks so that a PSTN line can be used to access many other networks as "on-net" calls.” Spicer continues.
To use the Virtual VoIP service, the caller dials a Citrus 4 digit (1xxx) access code or signs up to become a Citrus CPS customer. The subscriber’s account identifies all calls to Broadband Telephony numbers as “on-net”, and has no charges applied and has its own web self care facility.
In addition to the Virtual VoIP service, Citrus will also be offering its customers the additional web-phone facilities of the DIGITALK product, which allows subscribers to make calls from any internet connected PC using an online calling facility. This feature enables subscribers to make calls over the internet wherever they are in the world using the Citrus service without having to download and configure a softphone. The DIGITALK platform also allows Citrus to offer a range of advanced calling packages including inclusive minutes and rollover minutes.
Mark Ashdown, Sales and Marketing Director of DIGITALK commented, ”The new Citrus service is using some of the new enhancements that DIGITALK has built into its Broadband Telephony solution, and it shows how the flexibility of the platform can be used by service providers who want to push the boundaries of new service delivery, to offer real value to customers.”
