Kalaam Telecom, Bahrain’s leading alternative fixed-line operator, is set to launch a series of new voice services using the DIGITALK Multiservice Platform (MSP).
The new services, which will include a fully commercial VoIP offering aimed at both consumer and enterprise customers, will dramatically enhance the voice services available to Kalaam’s rapidly growing customer base, which includes both enterprise and residential prepaid / post-paid customers.
Kalaam will use the DIGITALK MSP to launch tailored new services targeting different market sectors as part of its drive to introduce new services into the Bahraini market using disruptive technologies such as VoIP. Kalaam Telecom has been aggressively expanding in Bahrain following deregulation in the market three years ago, which allowed alternative operators to enter the market for the first time.
Kalaam has been using the DIGITALK platform since the operator launched in Bahrain in 2005 and currently uses it for all its existing voice services, including calling cards and international telephony services.
“Kalaam will be offering a fully commercial VoIP service within the next few weeks,” said Carlos Riera, CEO, Kalaam. “We are moving towards services that will not only support emerging applications, like hosted voice services and IP-Centrex, but will also deliver a level of service and quality that has never before been available in this market.”
Services offered by Kalaam include ‘iDial’, an international indirect telephony service, ‘Kalaam Select’ Kalaam’s Carrier Pre-Select (CPS) offering, the ‘K-Talk’ calling card services and the recently introduced VoIP softphone service, ‘Net Talk’.
Mark Ashdown, DIGITALK’s Sales and Marketing Director added, “In a recently deregulated market, Kalaam is one of the new breed of alternative operators in the Middle East and has achieved a significant level of market share since its launch just over a year ago. There are currently in the region of 40 telecommunications licences issued in Bahrain, however only a small few who can compete with the incumbent. The services Kalaam can now deliver, not only shows the flexibility and adaptability of the DIGITALK platform, but is also testament to the vision of Kalaam’s entrepreneurial strategy.”
Kalaam is currently serving customers solely in Bahrain, but is aggressively pursuing plans to expand into other Middle Eastern countries, through a strategic partnerships or creating a dedicated presence as the sector moves toward a fully deregulated market.
